BFGoodrich Made in USA!

The 2007 sports season was exceptional for BFGoodrich in America. Titles and victories in the Score Off-Road championship, including the Baja 1000, the most famous all-terrain rally on the American continent, not forgetting titles in Drift, Rock Crawling and Rallying.

The Baja 1000 is to the USA what the Dakar is to Europe, the unmissable event of the Off-Road season, the best-known, the most difficult, the “craziest” competition. This year was its 40th anniversary !

The route extends over 2085 km (1300 miles) from the north to the south of the Californian peninsula, that strip of land wedged between the Pacific ocean and the Gulf of California. For the last 40 years, each November, hundreds of dare-devils attack the stony tracks across the immense expanses of desert which mark out a course twice as long as France, to be tackled in one go.

It was on this terrifying course that BFGoodrich first ventured into competition, about thirty years ago. Between 1986 and 2005, BFGoodrich brand tyres won 20 consecutive victories. In 2006, BFGoodrich suffered a serious setback. The aim for 2007 was therefore to regain the leadership.

An 800-horsepower monster!

The 424 competitors took off one by one from Ensenada on November 15, in pouring rain. 25 hours, 21 minutes and 25 seconds later, the Ford F-150 Trophy Truck crossed the finishing line as the winner. This 800-horsepower monster, wearing BFGoodrich Baja T/A tyres and driven in turn by Mark Post, Rob MacCachren and Carl Renezeder, covered the timed 2,085 km at an average speed of 82 km/h (51 mph). And this in spite of slippery tracks and blinding dust all the way. “A very big thank-you to BFGoodrich; we had no punctures,” said Mark Post, winner of this competition for the 1st time, at the finish.

Besides this 21st victory in the overall classification on the Baja 1000, BFGoodrich also won fifteen other categories including the Unlimited Class 1 with Larry Roeseler and Troy Herbst, also crowned 2007 Score Off-Road Champions in their Smith-Ford/BFGoodrich. This year, BFGoodrich tyres have also dominated the Drift (with Samuel Hubinette), Rock Crawling (with Tracy Jordan) and Rally championships with the star of freestyle Travis Pastrana in his Subaru Impreza/BFGoodrich.
